FAQ

General information about the grant

What is the Il Posto Research Grant?

The Il Posto Research Grant is a benefit provided by Il Posto to early career researchers who want to develop research using the material available in the Il Posto Documentos Collection (Il Posto Archive, Il Posto Library and Il Posto Artists’ Books Collection) and/or the Il Posto Collection.

What kind of projects does the Il Posto Research Grant fund?

The first Il Posto Research Grant, which will run from April to July 2023, will be specifically aimed at curatorial research projects that work with the documents available in the Il Posto Archive. In the future we hope to expand the modalities of the Il Posto Research Grant to also fund writing projects.

What is understood by «curatorial research project»?

At Il Posto Documentos we understand curatorial research as a theoretical and practical process open to speculative and sensitive exploration that proposes, critically and creatively, new forms of knowledge production. This process involves a moment of theoretical, historical and material research on art; the analysis and relationship of one or more sensitive objects (artistic or not); and the encounter with an audience through exhibition devices.

What are the documents available in the Il Posto Archive and how can I consult them?

The Il Posto Archive gathers more than 500 documents produced between the 1950s and the present that highlight the development of national artistic production. It currently includes two document collections: the «Chilean Artists» Fond, which brings together catalogs, brochures, magazines, letters and other documents related to important national artists, writers and critics (Gonzalo Díaz, Eugenio Dittborn, Nelly Richard, Justo Pastor Mellado, Francisco Smythe, among others); and the «Publications» Fond, which brings together national and international publications dedicated to reflections on art and cultural criticism (Artes & Textos, La Separata, Third Text, Revista de Estética, Revista de Crítica Cultural, among others).
