Peruvian artist. Fine Arts bachelor of the Catholic University of Peru and later received a doctorate from the Faculty of Art of Cuenca in Spain.
Her work refers to cultural production as a construction in equilibrium. Always disguised or hybrid, Gamarra’s constant use of painting acts as a mirror that alters the exhibition format, narrative and concept of culture ownership.
Gamarra states that her work «is divided into two aspects: one of my own imaginary and in the other, the use of the imaginary of other artists. But I’ve also realized that my imaginary was already inside the others. When I use it, it is all a continuous reproduction of my own imaginary, so at the end of the day, I’m also my own artist.»
In 2002 she proposed the creation of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Lima.
