Regina Galindo

Ciudad de Guatemala, 1974

Artist and poet from Guatemala. Uses her own body and context as a starting point to explore and denounce the ethical implications of social violence and injustices related to gender and racial discrimination. Also refers to human rights abuse arising from endemic inequalities in the power relationships of contemporary societies, demanding the restitution of memory and the humanity of the victims.

Her performances, radical, disturbing and ethically uncomfortable, have provoked controversies that have not diminished the recognition of her work. She is the only Latin American artist to have been awarded a Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale.
