Joseph Beuys

Krefeld, 1924

German artist. He studied sculpture at the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, where he later taught.

In 1962 he began his activities with the neo-Dada Fluxus movement, of which he became the most significant and famous member. His greatest achievement was the socialization he managed to make of art, approaching all types of public, since for Beuys «every human being is an artist», and every action, a work of art.

Considered one of the key artists of contemporary art, Beuys made provocative performances in which he used elements such as honey, felt or animals, which he defined as political actions.
