In this talk, Copeland will focus on his curatorial and editorial projects related to empty exhibitions and closed exhibitions. This event is part of Copeland’s visit to Chile, made possible by an invitation from the Institute for Advanced Studies at Universidad de Santiago de Chile.
Mathieu Copeland is a curator, researcher, and editor whose practice seeks to subvert the traditional role of exhibitions and to renew our perceptions of them. His most noteworthy projects include “A Choreographed Exhibition” (Kunsthalle, St. Gallen, 2007), “VOIDS. A Retrospective” (Centre Pompidou, Paris, and Kunsthalle, Bern (2009)), and “A Retrospective of Closed Exhibitions” (Kunsthalle, Fribourg (2016)), as well as series such as “A Spoken Word Exhibitions,” “Reprise,” and “Exhibitions to Hear Read,” and the film “The Exhibition of a Film” (2015). He has published over twenty catalogs and books and is currently a Senior Lecturer at Leeds School of Art.
